Dog Day

The other day, I was at my dad's house. He lives across the street from a Humane Society, on a dead end road. Meaning there is little to no traffic on it and that it's relatively deserted. So imagine having to leave your beloved pet behind because you were moving, or you just couldn't afford them anymore, and you go to the Humane Society only to find out you have to pay to give them away. That dead end road starts to look pretty appealing, right? Just drop them off, they're not your problem anymore, someone else will take care of it...?
I don't even know how many animals I've found down that road. I honestly don't understand what's going on in a person's head when they just abandon an animal like that. But, back to my original thought.
Me and my sister found a dog last week. Undoubtedly, someone dropped him off because they didn't want to pay the twenty-five dollars to take him to the shelter. This dog, couldn't have been more than twenty pounds, was so cold and shaking so furiously, that when we opened the car doors, he jumped right in. Remember this is Michigan, where it's still twenty degrees in mid March. We ended up taking him to the Humane Society ourselves, and it turned out they had been trying to catch him for a while, so they didn't even charge us anything.
How cruel of a person would you have to be to do that. Maybe you should skip those cigarettes for a couple of days to get the money to take your pet to a shelter. Or maybe you could car pool, or not go out to dinner or just not be so idiotic. If we hadn't found that little dog, there's no doubt in my mind he would have frozen to death, if he didn't starve first. At least we saved one of the many animals who have passed through our yard. At least I can hope that he'll find a nice home with a family who will love him, and that he'll be happy and warm for the rest of his little life. Honestly though, people really need to think about the consequences of their actions, because I know if I abandoned an animal, I would have to live with the guilt and nightmares of it for the rest of my life, when I bet the people who did this, didn't even think twice about it~
